Diebold Establishes EMEA Headquarters in Switzerland

Staffing to reach 30 by 2008

NEW YORK, October 24 – Diebold, Incorporated, (NYSE: DBD), a provider of integrated self-service delivery, security systems and services, has set up its new European, Middle East and Africa headquarters in Switzerland reports Mario Brossi of the Swiss Foreign Investment Agency Location: Switzerland. Located in Geneva, Diebold’s EMEA headquarters will employ approximately 30 professionals in sales, marketing, finance, supply chain management, HR and IT, Mr. Brossi said.

James Chen, Diebold’s senior vice president, EMEA and Asia-Pacific operations, said “Geneva was selected because of its first class telecommunications and transportation infrastructure, multilingual and highly-skilled workforce, and educational resources such as those provided by the Institute for Management Development in nearby Lausanne. These are essential resources for corporate operations such as ours.”

Mr. Chen noted that of the 30 professionals expected by 2008, 15 will be new positions. The Geneva staff is drawn from the local market plus other Diebold locations in Europe. “The Geneva Economic Development Office was very helpful in helping us secure our new facilities and administrative procedures related to staffing,” he said.

Mr. Brossi said that Diebold’s arrival in Geneva region this year helps to further strengthen the already impressive Information and Communication Technology (ICT) cluster present there. This roster of household names currently includes the likes of HP, EA, TakeTwo, Iomega, Lexmark, Oracle, VeriSign, as well as the CERN and ITU. In Switzerland overall, the ICT sector ranks third in terms of sales, only after the pharma and financial services industries, and is one of the top five employers in the country.
