WASHINGTON, April 26 - Celgene, eBay, Google and Procter & Gamble on April 28 will receive Tell Awards for Switzerland's most significant inward investment projects by North American firms in 2004, according to Mario Brossi of Location: Switzerland, the country's inward investment promotion agency.

The first in what will become an annual award program recognizes significant investment or expansion projects in four categories made in the country by U.S., Canadian and Mexican firms, Mr. Brossi said. The award is named for Swiss legendary hero William Tell.

Biopharmaceutical company Celgene will receive the award for the most significant new investment project in manufacturing based on locating its first European production center in the canton of Neuchatel, which will also serve as its European headquarters. An estimated 100 jobs will be created in the medium term, including operators and engineers.

eBay will receive the award for the most significant expansion by an existing investor by substantially increasing its headcount at its international headquarters in Berne. This leading Internet company known for its online marketplace started in Switzerland with 3 employees in 1999 and has now expanded to larger offices that accommodate a staff of more than 70 people.

Google will receive the award for the most promising disruptive technology by establishing its European R&D center in Zurich.

Procter & Gamble's award is for the most significant headquarters project. P&G, which has had a presence in Geneva since 1966, upgraded the site to European Headquarters status more recently and continues to grow its presence. Today P&G has almost 2000 employees in Geneva.

Tell Awards will be presented April 28 by H.E. Ambassador Christian Blickenstorfer during the Swiss Embassy's 4th Alumni Garden Party for Delegation Participants and Friends of Switzerland.  The event runs from 6 to 10 p.m. at the North Garden of the National Cathedral.
