Biogen Idec Opens New International Headquarters in Switzerland
Biogen Idec (NASDAQ: BIIB), a developer, manufacturer, and marketer of novel therapies in oncology, immunology, and neurology has opened its new international headquarters in Switzerland. Staffing at the company's global commercial and administrative operations in Zug is expected to reach 50 by year-end.
Biogen Idec's Chief Executive Officer James C. Mullen said, "Basing our headquarters in Switzerland gives us access to a highly skilled and well-educated workforce in a renowned cluster of biotechnology excellence. The country's superbly trained workforce and pro-business climate will strengthen our position as one of the few biotechnology companies with global operations," he said. "As we partner with other companies and continue to develop our pipeline, the Zug headquarters will be key in coordinating our international commercial operations for maximum efficiency."
Hans Peter Hasler, Senior Vice President, Head of International said, "The Zug offices will play a central role in the continuing efforts to grow and expand Biogen Idec's global operations, including the ongoing development of ANTEGREN® (natalizumab)."

Mr. Hasler noted that close to 500 Biogen Idec employees are based in Europe, Australia, Canada, Japan, and New Zealand.
