The strong commercial ties between Switzerland and Canada are exemplified by the investments each nation has made in the other. Today, approximately 65 Swiss firms are located in Canada, many with multiple locations. In turn, there are currently more than 40 Canadian companies doing business in Switzerland including such well-known names as Nortel, Quebecor, Hummingbird, MDS Pharma and Bombardier.

According to Canadian statistics, Switzerland is the 5th largest foreign investor in Canada with estimated total cumulative investment of $13.048 billion in 2005. Cumulative Canadian direct investment in Switzerland in 2005 was estimated at $5.212 billion.

Trade relations between the two nations are also excellent. In 2005, Swiss exports to Canada amounted to 2’257.9 million Swiss Francs. In the same year, Swiss imports from Canada amounted to 807.3 million SFR. In 2005, Canada was Switzerland's 13th export market and Switzerland ranked 19th in the Canadian export market.

The four dominant Canadian export sectors are machines, vehicles/airplanes, agricultural products and paper products, while pharmaceuticals, chemical products, and machines lead Swiss exports.
